We are currently serving 4 county jails in Houston-Metro and Austin-Metro areas.
Harris County Jail (Houston, TX):
Fort Bend County Jail (Richmond, TX):
Travis County & Williamson County Jails in Austin, and Georgetown, respectively.
Harris County Jail (Houston, TX):
- Our Current need is only for Jumah on Fridays 11am – 2pm. We need 24 male volunteers serving at least once a month to ensure our brothers inside can pray Jumah salat.
- We also need female volunteers to visit the sisters on the female floors more regularly, as they desperately need the companionship of their fellow sisters.
- It is an obligation upon the community (Fard Kifaya) to make sure our brothers can fulfill their weekly fard.
- With the guidance and blessing of a full-time Muslim chaplain working in Harris County Jail, we have all multi-purpose rooms booked across all floors of Harris County Jail reserved for jumah, we just need volunteers.
Fort Bend County Jail (Richmond, TX):
- No Jumah Services are offered in Travis County Jail. Other jails hold Jumah.
- We need an Islamic Center or individual to provide or sponsor a brother to conduct Jumah consistently on Fridays and for Taleem services on Saturdays.
- Currently Volunteer Chaplain, Ahmet Gunduz holds weekly Taleem at Fort Bend.
Travis County & Williamson County Jails in Austin, and Georgetown, respectively.
- This is Salaam’s second Jail with Muslim Chaplain paid by the Sheriff. Chaplain Yusuf Abdul-Samad works two days a week, serving all areas of the jails including sisters and high security areas.
- Sr Shaimaa Zayan, CAIR Austin Director and Volunteer Coordinator Syed Fawad Raza are recruiting volunteers to serve in Travis and Williamson County Jail.
- Br. Syed Fawad is approved to serving Williamson County Jail in Georgetown. Once we have earn system’s understanding and have advocacy inside, we will have our third Muslim Chaplain on Sheriff’s payroll but we must sponsor the position so the Chaplaincy can witness the benefit a Muslim Chaplain brings toward achieving Sherriff’s mission.
