Update
All seventeen unit chaplains serving fifteen female units have been provided Dawah material since May 2021 in collaboration with the four Muslim chaplains serving TDCJ.
First Zoom Meeting for the strategic planning was held on August 24, 2021 with ten participants from Houston, DFW and San Antonio. It was emphasized that volunteer visits must be consistent and must have curriculum that guides the visit routine.
We had a planning meeting in Dallas area on Aug 27, 2022. Some of the local organizations are serving or planning to serve sisters inside. Salaam’s Female unit Prison Coordinator will facilitate among sisters and brothers visiting female units with a goal of serving all female units monthly before our 5th Annual Symposium on January 27, 2024 insha Allah.
Our current priorities are:
1. Celebrate the first Muslim Chaplain, Imam Hamid Hardizi, in Harris County jail,
promoting religious diversity and cultural understanding and celebrate the first.
Jail Commissary for providing free Qurans to all inmates.
2. Support individuals with a history of addiction and involvement in gangs as they transform into beloved Khateebs, addressing prevalent health issues, family challenges, and promoting inclusivity and diversity
within our inner-city and suburban communities.
3. Empower sisters inside by providing weekly volunteer services to all 15 female units,
using on the Tayba Foundation's & Link Outside's professional curricula, to support the reintegration
of women into society after incarceration.
